Words On Bathroom Walls - Movie Review #WordsOnBathroomWalls

WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS tells the story of Adam (Charlie Plummer), who appears to be your typical young adult – a little unkempt with raging hormones and excited about a future pursuing his dream of becoming a chef. Expelled halfway through his senior year, Adam is diagnosed with a mental illness that he keeps secret at his new school. Living in constant fear of being exposed, Adam finds a soulful, comforting connection in Maya (Taylor Russell), an outspoken and fiercely intelligent girl who inspires him to open his heart and not be defined by his condition. With the love and support of his newfound romance and family, Adam is hopeful for the very first time that he can see the light and triumph over the challenges that lie ahead. The film also stars Andy Garcia, AnnaSophia Robb, Beth Grant, Devon Bostick, Lobo Sebastian, with Molly Parker and Walton Goggins.

My Review and thoughts:
Adam is a teenager who learns to cook after his father leaves and his mother needs his help in the home. He becomes a great cook and his goal is to graduate high school and go to culinary school. But Adam has schizophrenia. Adam and his mother try medication after medication. And finally, the last medication he takes, makes the voices go away and Adam seems happy. But then, he starts having bad reactions and side effects to the medication such as tremors, which keeps him from doing school work and cooking. Adam becomes at peace with himself and his illness. He attends graduation and tells his whole graduating class about his illness.

Charlie Plummer is an amazing teen actor! AnnaSophia Robb is great too! I was amazed at how Charlie Plummer was able to show us what it's like to have schizophrenia. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. How difficult is has to be to live with an illness like that. But to now understand it more, this book and movie will help everyone to understand what it's like for others.
