The Big Book of Symptoms: A-Z Guide to Your Child's Health is the ultimate resource for your child's day-to-day health and safety issues. My copy even included a Free 3-in-1 First Aid, Choking, and CPR Chart to hang on the wall, keep in my car or diaper bag! How cool is that!
The Big Book of Symptoms has information for parents about babies, children, and teenagers! It also includes information about First Aid, CPR, and more! This book is a Must Read for all parents, grandparents, and care givers! Everyone who has children or who takes care of children should have a copy on hand at all times. You never know when you might need this book and information.
The number for poison control is inside the book. It tells you what to look for if you think that your child might have a developmental or speech delay, and more! I now know for sure after looking through this book, that our six and a half year old son has Anxiety. As he gets older, he might have to be on medication for it. We will see.
My five year old daughter is really afraid of bugs, dogs, cats, birds, pretty much any pet or insect that is close to her, she is afraid of. She screams, cries, and shakes really bad when a dog comes to close to her. Even though we have two dogs of our own, she is afraid of them. We own two beagles, and they are gentle as can be. We have fostered dogs and puppies in the past, and they were all little dogs. As we didn't want to have to worry about any dogs fighting with ours. We have never had our dogs fight, they get along well. No dog has ever attacked her, and we are super careful with what she watches on television and in movies. But, she's still deeply afraid of them. Not too much that we can do about this, until she's bigger and older I guess.
My two year old daughter has mouth pain, which I found out through The Big Book of Symptoms, is totally normal. I checked her mouth, and sure enough, her two year molars on the top of her mouth are still working their way through her gums. Poor baby. No wonder she's been having a few rough nights. Time for some motrin before bed tonight for her. Maybe that will help her to sleep better.
My children are my world, and I would do anything for them. Being able to research quickly in book as to what might be wrong with them, and as to what I can do to help them, means alot to me as a mom and parent.
About the Book:
While one of life’s most rewarding endeavors is raising a happy, healthy, well-adjusted child, it can also be one of life’s most demanding and challenging undertakings. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the most respected authority in children’s health, is offering help to parents with its new book, The Big Book of Symptoms: A–Z Guide to Your Child’s Health.
Edited by two esteemed pediatricians, Steven P. Shelov, MD, FAAP, and Shelly V. Flais, MD, FAAP, The Big Book of Symptoms is an A-to-Z directory of more than 100 of the most common childhood symptoms from infancy to adolescence. It is designed to help parents evaluate their child’s symptoms and distinguish minor everyday concerns from more serious conditions. The guide includes an illustrated first aid manual, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) chart, and age-specific safety and injury prevention tips.
The Big Book of Symptoms offers parents and other caregivers key insight into common symptoms in children from infancy on up, such as:
- Understand that when your child has a fever, it’s a symptom, not an illness. Pay attention to any other symptoms your child might have before giving her a fever-reducing medicine.
- Discover how to handle colicky newborns that cry from 3 to 5 hours a day.
- Ease your toddler into a normal sleeping routine so she isn’t awake at all hours of the night.
- Whether it’s a bee sting or a tick bite, identify the different reactions to various bites and stings and how to treat your child.
- Remember how terrible it was to have acne in high school? Help your teenager know how to treat his acne so he won’t be as embarrassed in school.
“There might be a time when parents will face difficult situations,” says Dr. Shelov. “While pediatricians are the best resource for your child’s health care, it’s nice to have something to quickly turn to for research on symptoms and medical information.”
“With medical information changing frequently, The Big Book of Symptoms offers parents the most up-to-date material,” co-editor Dr. Flais said. “Every parent will experience a child getting sick at some time or another, and the AAP wants to be able to help them help their child.”
