Have you ever heard of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease?

I have, but I never knew exactly what Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease was, until I took both kiddos to the pediatrician's office on Wednesday. Then Wednesday night, I came down with a fever and sore throat, and sure enough, I caught it too.

I have researched a lot about it, and I thought that there are some things that you should know if you or your children ever catch it. It is highly contagious. The pediatrician said that it would be ok to have Chloe's birthday party next weekend.

WRONG! It is not ok to have her party and to be around other people for weeks after having Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. It's a virus, and me and my children can carry it in our bodies for weeks after we are done having it. So this means that who ever comes to the party, we are putting them at risk for catching it. I don't think so. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

My children and I all started out with being nausea, a sore throat, then a fever, they both threw up twice, I didn't. Then the fever went away, and a rash appears around the diaper area, which started for both of my kids when the fever started, on their hands, feet, and my son has some on his forearms and a few here and there on his legs and thighs. My children and I all felt tired on and off and we felt like we just wanted to go to bed and sleep.

For Matthew, the ones (ulcers/blisters, whatever you want to call them) on his arms stayed small, but the ones on his hands and feet got bigger. The biggest one was a little bit smaller then the size of a pencil eraser. Chloe had some on her feet though that were bigger than that, the popped on their own, and she has been crying on and off that her feet hurt, and there's not much that I can do for her. She also has some small ulcers around her mouth and lips. The pediatrician said that they both had some in their throat and mouth, and I do too.

The ones in my throat made my ears itch. The ones on my hands and feet Itch, Sting, and Burn almost constantly. I can hardly walk without every step becoming more and more painful. Standing hurts. Walking hurts. My kids brushing my hands or feet, hurts. Typing, not too bad, but I can't text because I have two fingers with ulcers on my finger tips, so I won't be texting till they are gone. I pray that they ulcers on my hands go away, and don't pop open. That would be excruciating. Especially since I use my fingers for blogging and using Facebook, when I have time.

Eating hard foods scratches the inside of my throat. Chocolate doesn't help the one sore that I have around my tongue somewhere. I haven't looked in the mirror to try to pinpoint it. Watermelon, Sweet Tea, cold drinks, pudding, smoothies, milkshakes and smooth ice cream help, but only temporarily.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I drank a lot of cold drinks and water. Coffee helps too, since it's warm and soothing. I have been taking tylenol when I really need to and the kids have both been asking for it on and off too. My poor babies. Even though they have both had these painful ulcers on their hands, feet, and in their mouths, they have been very resilient overall. They have played, even though their hands, feet, and throat are hurting. They have both been real troopers, more so than me. I have been complaining since my sore throat started, and my husband has no sympathy for me. He hasn't caught it yet. He even told me last night when I asked his help with something that I could do it. I started bawling and telling him that no I couldn't because my fingers really hurt, but he doesn't understand. So I got upset with him and told him that I do hope that he catches this and gets the painful ulcers on his hands and feet just so he can know how painful it really is. (I don't honestly wish that for him, I wouldn't wish this on anyone, not even my worst enemy.)

A few things about Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, it takes 3 to 7 days for the person or persons exposed to come down with symptoms of the virus. It first might look like a child or adult caught the flu, but then a rash appears in the throat, hands, feet, and for some adults, infants, and children, around their bottom.

It takes a week or two for symptoms of the virus to disappear for most people. But then remember, they are still contagious to others. Other people can still catch this virus from someone who has had this for weeks after they are feeling better. If the ulcers pop, or you decide to pop one or more and drain them, make sure to keep antibiotic ointment on them and keep them clean and let them dry out.

You can use Anti-Itch cream or hydrocortozone cream on them, but not lotion. You want the ulcers to dry out. If you use lotion on your hands, etc. it could take them longer to heal and dry out. Baking soda baths can help relieve the itching for short periods of time, for some people. I am going to soak in a baking soda bath for my hands and feet later. I should probably get my iPod charged so that I can listen to music while relaxing!

For adults and little ones, wearing socks might be slightly irritating to some people and to the ulcers on their feet, but if they break open, it can keep the virus from spreading all over your carpets and floors and help protect someone else from getting it!

Don't share a spoon, fork, or cup with infected person. Don't kiss them. Wash your hands and theirs frequently so that the infection doesn't spread to toys, doorknobs, etc. If they blow their nose, throw the tissue away, and then wash yours or their hands. If they sneeze on you, go wash off with some soap and water, and hope that you didn't get any of their sneeze spray in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

My children and I caught this from either Walmart, Target, or from some kid(s) at a birthday party. We didn't go anywhere else where they could have been exposed. I will be carrying around antibacterial wipes with me from now on and scrubbing the hell out of the grocery cart before using it. I think that grocery stores should install grocery cart washes, and people can pay for their cart to be washed in soap and hot water and then have it quickly air dried by a big blower before using one. They are so nasty, I believe this now. Every cold that my children and I have caught has been either from a grocery store, or a fast food restaurant with a play area. I think that we are done with those too. Maybe it's time to start dining at Wendy's and letting my children run around after we are done eating, lol? Maybe Wendy's should install in inside race track just so kids can run around in circles? I love the idea! I know that my kids would take advantage of it! Matthew loves to run!

Here are a few points from a website that I wanted to share with you about Hand, Foot, Mouth disease:

*Infection is spread from person to person by direct contact with infectious virus. Infectious virus is found in the nose and throat secretions, saliva, blister fluid, and stool of infected persons. The virus is most often spread by persons with unwashed, virus-contaminated hands and by contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.

*Your pets can't catch it from you.
  • Good hygiene practices that can lower the risk of infection include
    • Washing hands frequently and correctly (see Clean Hands Save Lives! ) and especially after changing diapers and after using the toilet
    • Cleaning dirty surfaces and soiled items, including toys, first with soap and water and then disinfecting them by cleansing with a solution of chlorine bleach (made by adding 1 tablespoon of bleach to 4 cups of water)
    • Avoiding close contact (kissing, hugging, sharing eating utensils or cups, etc.) with persons with HFMD
*There is currently NO Vaccine available to protect against the enteroviruses that cause Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease.

*Occurs Worldwide most often in the summer months and early autumn.

I LOVE my Keyfob!!!

I ordered a Keyfob a few months back online from someone on Etsy. I LOVE it! I love having my keys on my wrist and easy to get to! I have two toddlers and having my house and car keys somewhere easy to access is very important. Without the keyfob, I would be putting my keys in my pocket or trying to hold them in my hand while dealing with my kids, groceries, etc.

Here are a few Keyfobs below. Click on the photo to go to the Etsy shop where you can buy them! Make sure that they are big enough to fit on your wrist, as I noticed when searching for them to share with you, so were only big enough to put two or three fingers into.

A Few Annoying Things about Giveaway Posts...

Lately, when searching for Low Entry Giveaways, I have found bloggers not posting the country or countries of people who can enter their giveaways. I am also finding No Giveaway End Dates, and Giveaways stating that the winners will be chosen on such and such a date, and listing their giveaways on Giveaway Linkys that the day they choose the winner is the date that the giveaway ends.

I feel that the Date that bloggers should be listing is the actual date that the giveaway ends, not the date that they are going to choose the winner(s), but the date that they giveaway ends.

Please don't state that you will be choosing a winner on 5/13, and then post that giveaway on a giveaway linky and state that the giveaway ends on 5/13, when the giveaway end date is actually on 5/12.

It's also not too hard to ask your review and giveaway sponsors which country or countries that they are willing to mail the prize to. They will appreciate it in the long run AND your giveaway entries/comments will actually go up. I know many people, including myself, that won't enter a giveaway if the post doesn't state that it's for U.S. only, U.S. and Canada, or Worldwide.

I am sorry for the rant, but it makes it really hard to post other people's giveaways when they aren't stating this information. Thank you.

Amy Adele Review and FREE Shipping on your order of $25 or more!

I recently had a chance to review some invitations from Amy Adele for my daughter's second birthday! I am very pleased with them and the people that I sent them to loved them also. I had a few friends ask me where I ordered them from. They were very easy to make on the AmyAdele.com website. All I had to do was to come up with a cute little birthday saying, which I found online, and create my own invitation, except for the design, of course!

Every paper product on amyadele.com is printed on paper made of 100% Post Consumer Recycled Fiber! This includes all of our Stationery, Invitations, and Calling Cards, as well as their Envelopes and Address Labels.

Sourced from one of the finest paper manufacturers in the world, their paper is:
•Acid free & processed chlorine free.
•Made with 100% certified renewable energy.
•Procured through responsible use of forest resources.

Another Green Friendly Fact about amyadele.com: Our packaging peanuts are made with cornstarch. They’re bio-degradable and FDA compliant. Just put one in running water and watch it disappear!

I reviewed the "Happy Daisy Row" 5 X 7 invitations. They came with envelopes too, which I was very happy about. I don't like ordering invitations online and then having to go shopping after I receive them in the mail to find envelopes for them. I really love the thickness of the card stock used for these invitations.

Amy Adele also sells Stationary such as Thank you cards for every occasion; Birthday Invitations; Baby Shower Invitations; Calling Cards; Personalized Clothing for Infants, Toddlers, and up to size 10/12; Gift Tags; Announcements for Babies, Baptisms, Graduations, and more; Holiday cards for Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and more; Mailing Labels, Water-proof labels, and Labels to be used for anything and everything.

I especially like to use Water-proof labels on my children's backpacks and sippy cups! We go out every so often to a fast food restaurant to let our children play, and it's nice to have labels on their cups because I always know if some other little boy or girl has the same sippy cup, I know which one is ours. These have come especially handy lately at birthday and pool parties.

Chloe's 2nd Birthday Bash - Hello Kitty Babylegs legwarmers Review and Giveaway! (U.S.) Ends 7/27

I am one of the first bloggers to get a chance to host a review and giveaway of the Babylegs Hello Kitty legwarmers! In fact, I think that my blog is the only one currently doing so!

Aren't the Hello Kitty Babylegs Legwarmers the cutest!!! I LOVE them! I also love that many of the stores are starting to sell Hello Kitty clothing and accessories! My almost two year old daughter Chloe, loves Hello Kitty too! She even sleeps with a plush Hello Kitty toy every night.

Most Babylegs legwarmers are made out of Cotton, Polyester, Spandex, and Nylon. They do tend to roll down the thighs of chunky babies, just to let you know. Check out the review that I shared with my readers about Babylegs legwarmers, tights, and socks a few months ago. If you haven't read it yet, you can do so HERE.

Babylegs legwarmers are great for keeping your baby's and toddlers legs warm and protected from the sun all year round. They are also great for little ones when they are potty training. I can put a t-shirt, panties, and a pair of Babylegs legwarmers on my almost two year old daughter and it makes it really easy for her to pull down her underwear so that she can make it to the potty in time. She doesn't have any shorts to pull down, or any tricky buttons or zippers to mess with.

Our three and a half year old son loves to wear his Babylegs legwarmers on his arms. They come in handy on days where it's cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon. When the sun comes out and it's warmer outside, he can just pull them off and put them away or in the diaper bag if we are out and about. They are even great for adults to wear too! I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my left arm from my wrist to my elbow. I put a legwarmer on my arm to keep it warm while sitting in our living room or in the car to keep my arm warm. The cool air from the air conditioner will hit my arm when we are in the car or living room, and it causes my arm to ache and hurt, so wearing a Babylegs legwarmer on my arm really helps to keep it warm. Babylegs legwarmers really come in handy and then have so many uses.

Buy It!
Go to Babylegs.com today to purchase some Legwarmers, Tights, or Socks for your little ones today! FREE Shipping on all order over $30! (All orders under $30, shipping is a flat rate of $3.95.)

Win It!
Babylegs is generously offering one of my readers a chance to win Two Pairs of Hello Kitty Babylegs legwarmers! (There is no guarantee that you will get the two pairs of Hello Kitty Babylegs legwarmers that you want, but Babylegs will try their best, it depends on what's available when the giveaway closes.) Open to U.S. residents only.

Please enter using Rafflecopter to enter this giveaway. It is SO easy and it only takes a few minutes to enter! If Rafflecopter is down or if you have questions about how to enter using Rafflecopter, please email me at mysticbutterfly37 at yahoo.com and I will email you back with the giveaway entry requirements and you can leave them as comments/entries like you've done in the past.

*If you post my "Airplanes and Dragonflies" button OR my "Chloe's 2nd Birthday Bash" button on your blog or website, they MUST be on your site's MAIN Page, or your entries will be deleted.

Disclosure: I received two pairs of Hello Kitty Babylegs legwarmers, from Babylegs.com, for review. No other financial compensation was exchanged. The above opinions are mine, and mine alone. One winner will be chosen within 48 hours after the giveaway ends.
