"What’s Cooking at 10 Garden Street" by Felicita Sala - Children's Book Review and #Giveaway! (U.S./CAN) Ends 11/17 #GiftGuide #HolidayGiftGuide

"What’s Cooking at 10 Garden Street" by Felicita Sala (Prestel Junior; ISBN: 978-3791373973; Hardcover $14.95; Ages 6-9; 48 pages)

This delightfully illustrated children's cookbook offers a global menu of dishes to share with friends, family, and neighbors.

About the book:
Something delicious is cooking in the old apartment building on Garden Street! Pilar is mixing gazpacho, Monsieur Ping is stir-frying broccoli, SeƱora Flores is preparing a pot of beans, and Josef and Rafik are rolling meatballs. Other neighbors are making mini-quiches, baba ganoush, dhal, and peanut butter cookies. When they're all finished cooking everyone gathers in the garden to enjoy a delicious meal and each other's company. Each inviting spread in this storybook offers a recipe from a different culinary tradition. Dishes that kids love, like guacamole, spaghetti, and banana bread are interspersed with others that include less familiar ingredients, such as mirin, tahini, and turmeric. The recipes explain how each dish is made and come with fun and detailed illustrations. Combining simple, fresh flavors with recipes from around the world, this book will nourish and inspire budding cooks while whetting the appetites of their more experienced helpers.

"Big Cat" by Emma Lazell - Children's Book Review and #Giveaway! #HolidayGiftGuide #GiftGuide #BigCat (US/CAN) Ends 11/17

"Big Cat" by Emma Lazell (Pavilion Children's; ISBN: 9781843654292; Hardcover $16.95; Ages 4-8, 32 pages).

Lazell’s bright colors and brilliant characterization gives the book the look of a classic from the 1970s or earlier, but with a very modern sense of humor and sensibility.

Isobel's grandma has lost her glasses and she can't see a thing without them. While Isobel and Gran are in the garden searching for the specs, they come across a cat. A very big cat. A very big and stripy cat! The big cat moves in with them, much to the disgust of all gran's other cats. He might be good fun, but he takes up lots of space and eats every scrap of food. Eventually the new cat's mom and dad turn up, looking for their missing son. And they just happen to have found gran's glasses too. The tiger family are delighted to be reunited—and gran now sees that she's been sharing her house with... a tiger!

A heartwarming and surreal romp, packed with jokes and funny details and with an underlying message of acceptance.

Watch out, we’re in for stormy weather!

Well, actually, we’re in for a rockin’ trailer and original song from DC’s latest middle grade graphic novel, Black Canary: Ignite.

On October 29, Meg Cabot, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Princess Diaries, makes her graphic novel debut with Black Canary: Ignite. Today, DC is giving fans a sneak peek into the world of middle schooler Dinah Lance in an official trailer that features an original song from the book written by Cabot, and stunning artwork by artist Cara McGee.

Get a glimpse into the vibrant and powerful world of Black Canary: Ignite in the trailer below!

Lauded by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and Comics Beat, among others, Black Canary: Ignite is an inspirational tale that showcases the highs and lows of growing up without growing out of what makes you unique.

About the Book:
Thirteen-year-old Dinah Lance knows exactly what she wants, who she is, and where she’s going. She plans on winning the battle of the bands with her two best friends, then she’ll join the junior police academy to solve crimes just like her dad. When a mysterious figure keeps getting in the way of Dinah’s goals and threatens her friends and family, she’ll learn more about herself and her mother’s secret past, and about navigating the various power chords of life. This magnetic story features expressive and energetic art by Cara McGee to match the trademark attitude and spunk of Meg Cabot’s characters and dialogue.

My 10 year old daughter, Chloe's thoughts:
This book was good, full of adventure. I liked Dinah and her best friends. They sort of remind me of me and my best friends. I like that she plays in a band with her friends.

I, Heather, looked through this book, it looked good and appropriate for girls ages 10 and up. As you can read above, my daughter Chloe liked it! She's been helping me lately to review books. I like hearing her thoughts about them. Christmas is coming up soon! Any girl ages 10-14 would like this book!

Black Canary: Ignite is available to pre-order now and will hit stores everywhere books are sold on October 29, 2019.

"A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish" is sort of a musical, it has some new Christmas songs in it! I really liked it. It is geared more towards girls ages 12 and under, for sure. Synopsis:
Brimming with overtones from the classic fairytale, this contemporary musical follows Katherine “Kat” Decker (Laura Marano) dreaming of becoming a famous singer-songwriter. Her reality, however, is suffocated by her conniving and cruel stepfamily and a demoralizing job working as a singing elf at billionaire Terrence Wintergarden’s Santa Land. When she starts to fall for Nick (Gregg Sulkin), the handsome new Santa at the tree lot, things begin to look up. Unfortunately, when her stepmother and stepsisters realize Kat has been invited to the prestigious Wintergarden Christmas Gala, they’ll stop at nothing to procure their own invitation and keep Kat from attending. With the help of her attentive dog, a true friend, and a little bit of holiday magic, Kat may just make it to the gala, discover the true identity of Nick, and experience the true meaning of Christmas.

This is the fifth installment in the A Cinderella Story movie series, and first one with a Christmas theme. Other titles include A Cinderella Story (Hilary Duff), Another Cinderella Story (Selena Gomez), A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song (Lucy Hale) and A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits (Sofia Carson). The film is produced in association with Blue Ribbon Content for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

With K9 box subscription every month they’ll get a new country-themed box that they’ll get to unpack and play with their furry friends while learning about the country. There’s a passport with stamps for each country covered for them to keep track of and of course it would not be complete without the two durable toys and two healthy treats for the pets!

Check out our unboxing of our K9 Planet Adventure Box below:

My Review and Thoughts:
It was fun opening the box with my two girls! We had no idea really about what was inside. I didn't research it on purpose. I knew that dog subscription boxes usually had treats, and maybe one toy. The K9 Planet Adventure Box included two bags of dog treats, two plush dog toys, one postcard, and one reusable luggage tag! Our dog Lucy loved the dog treats, as you can tell in the video above. We haven't done an unboxing video before, so we had fun with it. We also wanted to include our dog in the video along with seeing how she liked the treats!

The K9 Planet Adventure box is perfect for anyone who loves sharing things with their dogs! A few month subscription, six month, or one year subscription would be a great gift for any dog lover this holiday season! Whether you or someone else has one dog or several dogs, these boxes can be enjoyed by all!

K9 Planet Adventure Box is currently available starting at $19.95 on https://k9planet.com/.
