Things That Remind Me of My Childhood...

My Dad, Mom and I when I was a baby.

There are many things that remind me of my childhood. One of them is Thrifty's Chocolate Malted Crunch Ice Cream! I loved that ice cream! I haven't been able to find anything else like it since. Some others are Orange Julius, the Hello Kitty shop (it was a store where you could buy Hello Kitty items like stickers, small toys, candy, etc.), Disneyland, the old Knott's Berry Farm Lake and Riverboat (We used to go there and ride the train around the lake, ride on the boat, feed the ducks and have picnics in the shade under the trees. They took it out back in the 1980's, and now it's a parking lot. So yes, they paved paradise, and put in a parking lot.), walking to the park, walking to the liquor store, Silverado Days (It was our town's yearly fall carnival that lasted from Thursday night until Sunday night, and it was amazing! The food, rides, games, booths, it was magical. I really loved going with my parents and especially when I was a teenager with friends.), playing outside until the street lights came on, going trick or treating without a care in the world, class parties for every holiday and birthday, and dressing up at school on Halloween and our Halloween parade at school.

There are many more things that remind me of being a child. Many of those things are still in my parent's home in Buena Park, CA, along with my parents. I live in middle Tennessee, far away from them. I miss them. I guess we never forget our childhoods and we always crave those things that remind us of it. But as I've gotten older (41), I am learning to let go of old friends, because they are busy with their lives in CA, and I am not there with them anymore. It's taken me almost 10 years to realize this. I have some friends in TN, but not like the friends that I had in CA.

So there's some more about me. What's your story?

Scooby-Doo and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack #Review & #Giveaway! (U.S.) Ends 8/28 #ScoobyWWE #sponsored

Disclosure: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray™ I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

Synopsis:
It’s pedal to the metal as Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and the gang team up with the superstars of WWE in this hi-octane, all-new original movie! When Scooby and Mystery Inc. visit an off-road racing competition, it’s not long before strange events start to occur. A mysterious phantom racer, known only as Inferno, is causing chaos and determined to sabotage the race. It’s up Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and their new driving partner, The Undertaker, to save the race and solve the mystery. Along with other WWE superstars such as Triple H, Paige and Shamus, it’s time to start your engine and your appetite because Scooby-Doo and WWE are chasing down adventure and laughs just for you!

Click here for some Scooby-Doo and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon Activity Sheets!

My Review:
When you combine Scooby Doo and the WWE, you've got a winning combination of crime fighters!
It was really neat to see Mr. McMahon and his daughter Stephanie as cartoons! Seeing HHH and The Undertaker in cartoon form was great too! For WWE fans, this animated duo of Scooby Doo and the WWE is a must have! My kids and I liked it. I haven't followed WWE since 2010 or something like that. So I knew who a few of the wrestlers were. My kids haven't watched WWE at all, as we don't like them wrestling with each other or other children. But they all said they liked the Scooby Doo movie. It wasn't too long or too short, unlike other Scooby Doo movies in the past. The length of this one was good.

"Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit" Now Open At The Children's Museum of Indianapolis! @DisneyChannelPR #DocMcStuffins

'DOC MCSTUFFINS: THE EXHIBIT' OPENS AT
THE WORLD'S LARGEST CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

First-Ever Museum Exhibit Based on Peabody Award-Winning Series

Disney Junior is bringing its popular "Doc McStuffins" storytelling to communities in a first-ever touring museum exhibit based on the Peabody Award-winning television series. "Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit" is now open at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, and will travel to other museums around the country in 2017. The exhibit is designed to model "care and compassion" for kids age 2-7 in immersive activities that reinforce the importance of health and well-being.

Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior, said, "Doc McStuffins has already made a tremendous impact on how children see themselves and their possibilities by way of our popular TV series." She continued, "We are delighted to now bring the show's messages of care and compassion directly into communities across the country and we know we are in excellent hands with The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. We look forward to having young visitors experience Doc's playhouse clinic and toy hospital and learn firsthand about caring for themselves and for others."

Photo credit: Courtesy of The Children's Museum of Indianapolis*

The bilingual (English/Spanish) interactive exhibit will transport kids and families into Doc's iconic backyard clinic and the McStuffins Toy Hospital. There, young visitors go on a "feel better adventure" as they become "doctors in training," don a white coat and toy stethoscope, "scrub in" (learning the importance of washing hands to avoid germs), report to an "operating room" where they can fix seams on a toy bear, assist in an "operation" on a toy dragon robot, and use Doc's tools including a toy otoscope, stethoscope, thermometer and blood pressure cuff to give a checkup to their own toys.

The exhibit is sponsored by Riley Children's Health at Indiana University Health, home to one of the nation's leading children's hospitals. The exhibit provides an opportunity for children to become comfortable in a healthcare setting.

"It is a heavy order to convince children that going to see the doctor is not scary," said Dr. Paul Haut, chief medical officer of Riley Children's Health. "But it can be done through educational and interactive experiences, which help them understand that what we do is help keep people healthy. By teaching visitors about healthy habits, such as practicing good hand hygiene, exercising regularly and eating well, we hope this exhibit will put children's minds at ease, while supporting our mission to keep all Hoosier children healthy."

"Doc McStuffins serves as a great role model to children and adults, encouraging them to explore the importance of taking care of their own bodies as well as caring for others," said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. "Through imaginative play, we hope our visitors will learn more about health, science, and medicine, and discover that children can be anything they want to be when they grow up."

Disney's "Pete's Dragon" Opens In Theaters Tomorrow, 8/12! #PetesDragon @DisneyPetes

The most magical movie of the year, PETE’S DRAGON is finally opening in theaters everywhere tomorrow, August 12th! This is one of the best family movies of the year and equally perfect for kids and adults alike!

My Review:
Pete's Dragon is amazing, heartfelt, adventurous, exhilarating, and more! The animation of Elliot, Pete's Dragon, was done so well that I honestly felt he was real! We took our three children with us, ages 8 1/2, 7 and 4. Our two older children loved it and sat still through the whole movie. My four year old however, was antsy some of the time, but she liked it.

The beginning of the movie starts off with a car crash. But most children aren't going to completely realize that until they see the car laying upside down in the middle of a road. Then you'll hear growling! It's coming from a pack of wolves chasing 4-5 year old Pete. They look a little mean because you get a quick glimpse of them and their teeth. But then, Elliot comes to the rescue and saves Pete from the wolves. I am telling you this because not all children will be ok with this. Some sensitive children might be scared. There is also guns in this movie and guns shooting sleeping darts at Elliot. Near the end of the movie is gets a little scary when Elliot gets upset and blows fire on a bridge causing some issues, which I will let you watch it to find out! But like most Disney movies, it ends on a super happy note. You and your family will leave this movie feeling happy, and you probably won't even remember the wolves or the fire breathing dragon, which is neat by the way!

Overall, Pete's Dragon is a great movie! It's not a musical and it's different from the old Pete's Dragon movie. The story was very well written and the movie was very well put together!

I suggest this movie (in the theater) for children ages five and up, as most younger children aren't going to sit still. They might get too antsy and jump around, as some 4-5 year old children do.

About Pete's Dragon:
For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.

And make sure you also check out these hilarious Bryce Dallas “How-To” videos where she “teaches” you how to create a dragon costume for your cat and make delicious dragon cupcakes!

"God Made You Just Right" by Jill Roman Lord - Children's Book #Review & #Giveaway! (U.S.) Ends 8/21 @WorthyPub

Here is a message that every parent will want to share with his or her child: “You’re brilliantly created and there’s no one else like you!” In a manner that even the youngest child will understand, Jill Roman Lord shares the message that God created each of us in just the right way. Bright and engaging illustrations from Amy Wummer pair perfectly with the text. Great for children ages 2-5.

From the back of the book:
You're brilliantly created, and there's no one else like you! With simple, rhyming text and whimsical illustrations, this book is a welcome reminder for the little ones that God created each of us in just the right way.

About the Author:
Jill Roman Lord won her first writing contest in first grade, and she’s been writing ever since. Some of Jill’s titles include One Night in Bethlehem and If Jesus Lived Inside My Heart. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, three children, and their golden retriever. Check out Jill Roman Lord's website: www.jillromanlord.com.

About the Illustrator:
Amy Wummer has been illustrating children’s books for 18 years. Her playful watercolor illustrations evoke the wonder of a child’s delight in the world.

My Review:
The illustrations in this book are so adorable. They make any child or person reading the book feel special and happy. I recommend this book for ages 1 and up. As everyone needs to hear the messages in this book every so often. We all need a reminder that God made each one of us unique and special. The book tells us that God "planned the special uses of the fingers on your hand." God gave each one of us a unique gift to share with others. The book tells children and adults alike that we are "God's amazing work of art, adored, one of a kind." We are His amazing work! He loves each and every one of us for who we are, and for who we will become. There's even a bible verse in the back of the book, Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord," plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

We all need a reminder of how much God loves us once in a while. We all need Hope. For without Hope of change and things to come and that hopefully our world will change it's ways, we would not be happy people.
