GILMORE GIRLS:
A YEAR IN THE LIFE
Available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital
Just in Time for Holiday Gift-Giving!
Synopsis:
Nearly ten years after the original series ended,
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life begins, Lorelai still runs the Dragonfly Inn (and chugs coffee like it's water) and Rory, now 32, has experienced some career success. As Rory works through job-related struggles and Lorelai deals with some unresolved issues of her own, Emily Gilmore has been handling the loss of her dear husband, Richard. Emily is at a major crossroads in her life, recently widowed and trying to figure out what to do next. Richard's death forces Emily and Lorelai to finally reexamine their own fraught relationship, which hasn't changed much since the beginning of the series.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life stars Lauren Graham (Parenthood), Alexis Bledel (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants), Kelly Bishop (The Good Wife) and Scott Patterson (Saw V, Saw IV), and Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife). The mini-series also includes special guest appearances by original cast members including Oscar nominee, Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly, Bridesmaids), Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Liza Weil (How To Get Away With Murder), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Yanic Truesdale (Rumours), Keiko Agena (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy).

My Review:
I love Gilmore Girls! I watch re-runs on UP all the time. I even own all of the seasons on DVD. I was super excited to be able to add the "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" DVD's to my collection. I especially enjoy being able to share old Gilmore Girls episodes with my girls. They are mostly family friendly and my eight year old daughter understands most of them. Some episodes have helped our communication and her questions about life and more. Even my ten year old son watches with us once in a while.
In "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," we learn what happened to Rory years after he boarded a bus to join the campaign for our past president. We learn that Lorelai and Luke are still together, and never had any children, which I thought was sad by the way. It would have been nice to see them have a child or two together. I loved what they did with Emily Gilmore's character. I love that she's adopted her maid's family and that she is helping care for them and their children. What an interesting turn.
But I wasn't satisfied with the play that they took over an hour of time that the town was putting on. They could have used that time to show us what happened to Rory instead of ending the 4-part series like they did. So if you haven't seen it yet, you might want to fast forward through the whole entire play unless you want to watch it, then go for it! Some people might enjoy it, but I didn't.
Will Netflix bring Gilmore Girls back? Might Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Matt Czuchry, and more, be willing to do more shows? I sure hope so! I felt like they left us hanging.
