I reviewed the book "Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Power of Giving: A Christmas Story" with my four year old son, Matthew. When I was finished reading it to him, I asked him what he learned from the story. He said "I learned to share, and that it makes people happy when you share your toys." What a smart little guy he is! He got the moral of the story all by himself with no help from me.
"Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Power of Giving: A Christmas Story" is about a white rabbit named Howard who has many toys, and he wants ever more toys for Christmas. Howard also doesn't share his toys with his siblings. Howard learns that there are animals around him who have no families, homes, beds, or toys, and they believe Howard is Santa Bunny. So the animals (birds) tell Howard what they want for Christmas.
The birds help Howard find his way back to his house. Howard fixes them some food, puts them to bed, and then Howard wraps up his toys to give to the birds as their Christmas presents. There is more to the story than that, but I don't want to give it all away!
I also reviewed "Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen." Howard goes to school, plays baseball, and more and he doesn't listen to anyone, not his teacher or his friends. Howard gets hurt and bad things happen to him all because he isn't listening. Then the next day, Howard listens to everyone and wins an award at school for listening! Howard learned that he won't get hurt, or in trouble, if he listens to what adults and his friends are saying to him. After reading this book to our four year old son, he went to school the next day and he got an award for listening and making good choices! Our son has been in school for five or six weeks now, and he is just now adjusting to being there and their routines. He was so happy, and I was happy too! I took him to a fast food restaurant to play for a few hours and to have lunch! He was so excited, and he was good for me for the rest of the day!
I believe in the lessons that the Howard B. Wigglebottom books are teaching that I am going to lend the two books that I got to review, to our son's Pre K teacher! She is excited to check them out!
