I love listening to other children's music artists because I can sing along too, and the music is rated G, no bad lyrics, no bad subjects, and I don't have to explain adult topics to my children after listening to certain songs. I was in my truck yesterday listening to JACK FM, and "Funky Cold Medina" came on. I used to love that song when I was a teenager, but the lyrics!!! Really! I don't think that my parents actually knew what we were listening to exactly, and what the actual lyrics were about. Because if they did, they certainly would not have let my sisters and I listen to most of it.
When we get a chance to listen to new children's music, we jump at the chance! My three children, ages six, four and a half, and nineteen months old love to listen to music, play music, dance around, and sing along. Especially on snow days, which we have had many this year in Tennessee.
"In A Heartbeat" includes songs such as "I'm a Little Fish," which is the first song on the album (we were all singing along), "Heartbeat," which is about your heart and makes everyone in the room thump their fingers on their chest along with the music (and my children were dancing too), and "Butterfly," which is my personal favorite!
They also loved the "See You Later Alligator" song which is similar to the old song done back in 1950's by a few different artists back then, as I didn't know until I looked it up. I am most familiar with the version by Bill Haley & his Comets.

A collection of cozy, upbeat songs to warm the hearts of all ages, In a Heartbeat is perfect for Valentine's Day. The album finds its genesis in the love Laura Doherty feels for both the Westchester County, NY region where she grew up and her "adopted hometown" of Chicago, where she's resided for most of the past two decades. Half the songs on In a Heartbeat were written in New York and half in Chicago, with Laura taking inspiration from the lush, rolling hills of the Hudson Valley as well as Chicago's vibrant, urban energy.
Known for her warm, engaging style, Laura Doherty has a remarkable ear for a catchy melody, a passion for creating sweet, folk-inspired songs, and a one-of-a-kind ability to connect with children that earned her the moniker "Chicago's pop sweetheart for kids" from AAA Living Magazine. Time Out NY Kids declared Laura's 2009 Parents' Choice Gold and Nappa Gold Award-winning Kids in the City to be one of that year's "Top 10 Kids' Albums." Time Out Chicago gave 4 stars to her 2011 Parents' Choice Silver Award-winning Shining Like a Star and rated Laura as one of Chicago's Top 4 Children's Artists (with Justin Roberts, Ella Jenkins, and Ralph Covert).
