Laurie Berkner Lullabies CD Review and Giveaway! (U.S.) Ends 4/13 (Rafflecopter)

My children and I LOVE The Laurie Berkner Band! We can't get enough of them. In our car, house, and when we are at other people's homes, we take our Laurie Berkner Band CD's with us! My children asked several times on our road trip for us to put on one of Laurie's CD's!

Laurie has out a NEW Album called "Laurie Berkner Lullabies!" This Album isn't only for babies or toddlers, but young children and adults too! The songs aren't as slow as you would think they would be, which is great! They are all sang so beautifully. My children, ages six and a half, four and a half, and twenty one months, loved this album, and they keep asking me to play it over and over again. Our favorite songs on this album are Moon Moon Moon, Fireflies, Mahalo, Pillowland, Stars Are Shining, Good Night and more! Below is a video of the song "Pillowland," one of my children's favorite videos!

Here is some information about Laurie Berkner (taken from her website):

When Laurie Berkner embarked on her career as a children's recording artist in the summer of 1997, she started small - personally filling orders of her first release (Whaddaya Think of That?) from her living room in Manhattan while still keeping up her preschool music teaching jobs. It wasn't long, however, before the 500 copies she originally pressed sold out, and Two Tomatoes Records was born.

Laurie's growing popularity in the New York area led to a second release, 1998's Buzz Buzz. Soon more local toy stores and children's specialty shops began selling her music and distribution companies began purchasing quantities of her recordings. Sarah Milstein moved on, and shortly after the 1999 release of Victor Vito, Laurie took the bold step of hiring a publicist - also named Sarah (SKG Publicity). Things began to move more quickly thereafter, with national media coverage helping spread the word.  Laurie then appeared on the "Today" show and suddenly Two Tomatoes was swamped with orders.

In the meantime, Laurie's closets were becoming more and more stuffed. Two Tomatoes was taking over her living room with the 2000 re-release of her first recording on disc, and running the record label was no longer a part-time job. Laurie decided to give up her teaching to, as she put it, "reign in the monster!"  In 2002, shortly before the release of Under A Shady Tree, it became clear that there was no longer enough space in Laurie and husband Brian's one-bedroom apartment for a record label. Two Tomatoes moved into a real office in New York City, with real staff including Shannon Chirone (COO), then Corinne Barlow (CBO). Shortly thereafter John Waldman (Great Knight Productions) signed up as booking agent/manager and later still came the addition of another Tomato, Katie Schneller (Director of New Media and Fan Relations) and Laurie, Brian and daughter Lucy moved into a new more spacious apartment.  It's one big happy family!

In turning to Kickstarter to raise funds for this project, Laurie made sure to thank her supporters with some great rewards, like advanced digital copies of the CD, sneak video peaks at the recording of the CD, and autographed, even personalized, copies of the CD!

For the bigger supporters, the rewards were outstanding! Laurie recorded personal outgoing voice mail messages; and she even included children’s artwork on the CD cover itself! Some families even got a chance to Skype with Laurie Berkner!

Laura Doherty's NEW Children's Music CD "In A Heartbeat" Review!

I love listening to other children's music artists because I can sing along too, and the music is rated G, no bad lyrics, no bad subjects, and I don't have to explain adult topics to my children after listening to certain songs. I was in my truck yesterday listening to JACK FM, and "Funky Cold Medina" came on. I used to love that song when I was a teenager, but the lyrics!!! Really! I don't think that my parents actually knew what we were listening to exactly, and what the actual lyrics were about. Because if they did, they certainly would not have let my sisters and I listen to most of it.

When we get a chance to listen to new children's music, we jump at the chance! My three children, ages six, four and a half, and nineteen months old love to listen to music, play music, dance around, and sing along. Especially on snow days, which we have had many this year in Tennessee.

"In A Heartbeat" includes songs such as "I'm a Little Fish," which is the first song on the album (we were all singing along), "Heartbeat," which is about your heart and makes everyone in the room thump their fingers on their chest along with the music (and my children were dancing too), and "Butterfly," which is my personal favorite!

They also loved the "See You Later Alligator" song which is similar to the old song done back in 1950's by a few different artists back then, as I didn't know until I looked it up. I am most familiar with the version by Bill Haley & his Comets.

So check out Laura Doherty's new album, website, and order your copy today! Your children will thank you, and so will your ears and your heart! In a Heartbeat is available online at amazon.com, cdbaby.com, iTunes, and at retail outlets in Chicago and Rockford, Illinois.

Below is some more information about the album:
Laura Doherty's "In a Heartbeat" album features guest artist Glenn Kotche of Wilso

"Laura's warm, sunny, friendly voice is reminiscent of Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and The Waifs." -- Parents' Choice Gold Award review of Laura Doherty's Kids in the City.

"One of the best artists making music for the preschoolers in your life." -- Stefan Shepherd, Zooglobble.com

With Parents' Choice Gold and Silver Awards for her first two children's albums in her hip pocket, independent musician Laura Doherty releases her third kids' CD, In a Heartbeat, today! Featured guest artist is Glenn Kotche of Wilco. (Laura Doherty Music, $15.00, for ages 0 - 6, run time 34 minutes.)

A collection of cozy, upbeat songs to warm the hearts of all ages, In a Heartbeat is perfect for Valentine's Day. The album finds its genesis in the love Laura Doherty feels for both the Westchester County, NY region where she grew up and her "adopted hometown" of Chicago, where she's resided for most of the past two decades. Half the songs on In a Heartbeat were written in New York and half in Chicago, with Laura taking inspiration from the lush, rolling hills of the Hudson Valley as well as Chicago's vibrant, urban energy.

Known for her warm, engaging style, Laura Doherty has a remarkable ear for a catchy melody, a passion for creating sweet, folk-inspired songs, and a one-of-a-kind ability to connect with children that earned her the moniker "Chicago's pop sweetheart for kids" from AAA Living Magazine. Time Out NY Kids declared Laura's 2009 Parents' Choice Gold and Nappa Gold Award-winning Kids in the City to be one of that year's "Top 10 Kids' Albums." Time Out Chicago gave 4 stars to her 2011 Parents' Choice Silver Award-winning Shining Like a Star and rated Laura as one of Chicago's Top 4 Children's Artists (with Justin Roberts, Ella Jenkins, and Ralph Covert).

Recess Monkey's "Deep Sea Diver" CD Review and Giveaway! (U.S.) Ends 9/23 (Rafflecopter)

Deep Sea Diver is Recess Monkey's "blue album," an ocean-themed recording set in a submarine that plumbs the musical depths of the sea before becoming shipwrecked on the beach of a distant lost island. Conceived as "the Recess Monkey-est Recess Monkey album ever," Deep Sea Diver is filled with a boatload of the band's over-the-top, super zany, clever, high-energy songs that deliver lots of synth, funk, and everything in between, all written and produced with a high degree of seaworthy musical and creative artistry.

My children both really enjoy singing along with the first song on the album Tambourine Submarine! It's fast paced, which my children love, and they were dancing to the song and having a great time! Even my fourteen month old daughter was rocking out!

My four year old really loved Recess Monkey's song "Shrimp." It was sort of like listening to a child's cute rap music song, but, not as annoying to me as most rap songs are. She's shorter than her brother, and he's always telling her that she's too young or too small to do things. She is, and she isn't. She can amazingly do more than him some days. She is small, but she is mighty!

Finish out your summer with your family and listen to Recess Monkey's "Deep Sea Diver" while driving to the beach, swimming in your pool, hanging out around the house, or at your child's next birthday party! The album is recommended for children ages 2 to 8 years old, but, my fourteen month old loved it! I feel it's for children of all ages, and parents too!

Deep Sea Diver is available at recessmonkey.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, theAVCafe.com, bigkids.com, iTunes, bandcamp.com, Silver Platters, Sonic Boom Records, and Barnes & Noble.

Joanie Leeds "Bandwagon" Album Review!

My children's favorite song is "I Don't Want to Go to Bed!" They sang along with it because the lyrics are easy and so much fun to them. The song "Jump on the Bandwagon" had both kids jumping and dancing and singing along and begging for more! I really love music that they like because it's nice to listen to while in the truck while running errands and taking my children to and from school. They actually behave well in the truck if we listen to music that they like and can sing along to.

My three and a half year old daughter Chloe is standing on the end table, not something she should be doing, I know, but she's bopping and dancing to "I Love New York!" So cute!

I copied and pasted the press release below for you to check out! Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights are so awesome! I can't wait to learn the lyrics to their music and sing along in the truck with my children.

JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON
with
JOANIE LEEDS & THE NIGHTLIGHTS

WITH JUSTIN LANSING (OF THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS), JONATHA BROOKE, DEAN JONES & RACHEL LOSHAK

"From funk and blues to country and pop, with even a little hip hop thrown in, this album has a style for everyone ... the band is high caliber, and the raw energy of the songs jumps off the speakers."
NAPPA Gold Award review of Joanie Leeds' What a Zoo!

"Leeds has one of those big, beautiful rock 'n roll sopranos that can go full-out or soft and tender, and she uses it to full effect.  Her tuneful melodies and rich, funny and thoughtful child-respecting lyrics give depth and irresistible zip to songs."
Parents' Choice Gold Award review of Joanie Leeds' I'm a Rock Star.

NEW YORK -- With legions of devoted fans throughout the country and Parents' Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold Awards in her hip pocket, independent children's musician Joanie Leeds looks ahead with pride and excitement to the June 25 release of her fifth kids' CD, Bandwagon  ($15.00, for ages 2 - 9, run time 42 minutes).

Joining Joanie Leeds and her band, The Nightlights, on Bandwagon are Justin Lansing (of the GRAMMY winning The Okee Dokee Brothers), GRAMMY winning producer Dean Jones, folk superstar Jonatha Brooke, and acclaimed singer/songwriter Rachel Loshak of the Gustafer Yellowgold family.

Gifted with a soulful, "rock solid" voice and an instinctive knack for capturing the essence of any style she goes for, Joanie Leeds has delivered, with each new release, music that thrills admiring adults yet speaks to kids in a friendly, non-patronizing way.  Says Sirius/XM's Kids Place Live Program Director Mindy Thomas, "Joanie Leeds is that cool babysitter who would let you try on her lip gloss once your mom left the house.  You idolized her, and your mom knew she could trust her.  That's Joanie.  Only she's also likely to completely ROCK THE ROOF OFF YOUR HOUSE!"

Produced by GRAMMY winner Dean Jones, Bandwagon showcases Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights at the very top of their game.  The album kicks off in a bluesy groove with a family road trip anthem, "Are We There Yet," and then picks up speed with the fast country-rock "Back to School."  Bandwagon's title track, a family front porch jam in a  happy, two-beat style, is graced by contributions from guest artists Justin Lansing, Dean Jones, and Rachel Loshak.  Other highlights include "UFO," an out-of-this world story-song powered by driving bass and drums; Jonatha Brooke's and Joanie Leeds' beautiful vocals on "Family Tree"; and perhaps the most deliciously funky offering on Bandwagon, "Nutritious," an ode to healthy eating that serves up some of Joanie's original lyrics to the Stevie Wonder classic, "Superstition."

Reflecting on the making of Bandwagon, Joanie Leeds enthuses, "One of the coolest things that happened was being allowed to use Stevie Wonder's song, 'Superstition.' In order to re-write lyrics to a song, you need to gain permission from the publishing company or the artist himself.  Stevie Wonder's record label sent him my lyrics, and he gave the OK!   I was also thrilled to be able to work with one of my idols, Jonatha Brooke.  I reached out to Jonatha to record 'Family Tree,' not expecting a reply, but she wrote back saying that she'd love to hear the song, and we were soon in the studio together.  Aside from my recent wedding, it was one of the best moments of my life!"

People Magazine singled out Joanie Leeds' 2011 NAPPA Gold Award-winning What a Zoo! for praise, writing, "Animal-crazed kids will dig these new tunes."  AOL Kids lauded the album as one of the year's best.  Declared Parents Magazine, "This indie rock CD is fun from start to finish."  "Happy as a Clam," from What a Zoo! was a 2012 International Songwriting Competition winner.  The Washington Post named Joanie Leeds' 2010 release, I'm a Rock Star, as one of the best kids' CDs of the year.  In addition to winning a Parents' Choice Gold Award, the album was honored with a NAPPA Award, its title track was a finalist in both the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition, and the song "More Cowbell" won an Independent Music Award for Best Children's Song and reached #1 on WXPN's Kids Corner.

Previous to What a Zoo! and I'm a Rock Star, Joanie Leeds released a children's holiday CD, Challah, Challah (2009), a Parents' Choice Recommended children's album, City Kid! (2008), and two albums for adult listeners: Soul From My Footsteps ( 2004) and My Job Application Knows More About Me Than You Do (2000).  Joanie's City Kid Live! DVD, released in 2010, won three Telly Awards.

Bandwagon will be available online at joanieleeds.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, iTunes, and at specialty toy and bookstores across the country.
